Sophie Xu

Philadelphia, USA. Born 1989.
q: You’ve done a lot of portraits, any tips when photographing people?
a: Most of the portraits I’ve taken are my friends so the more comfortable and relaxed they are, the more easier it is to photograph them. When it’s someone I don’t know and I’m not getting what I want, I tell them to take a deep breath and start talking to them about literally anything because who wants a camera in front of their face. I don’t (which is why I’m behind the camera). And as they start loosening up that’s when I pick up my camera and start clicking.

q: What inspires you?
a: The golden hour of sunlight, unique beautiful people, fashion, buildings, music, movies, artists, the fast moments that surpasses, and youth-in no order.

q: Any movies to recommend?
a: There’s so many! City of God, Candy, Pulp Fiction, Night of the Living Dead, Almost Famous.

q: What music are you listening to now?
a: Lately I have been listening to the Weekend, Drake, Sleigh Bells, Cat Power, and Lana Del Rey.
