q: I like your series “Strangers” and the little stories behind them. What’s the best or worst part about shooting people you don’t know?
a: The best part about shooting strangers is definitely the little stories and experiences it creates. the project has given me the opportunity to talk to people I never would have approached otherwise, and hopefully I can create a moment for them that they will enjoy as much as I do. It can be a little nerve wracking to just go up to someone you don’t know, but its always worth it.
q: Why do you think people get piercings (especially in painful places)?
a: I feel like everyone has their own reason for getting a piercing, whether it be for aesthetic reasons (like my own) or to get in touch with more tribal/spiritual persuasions. Some people just love the sensation of getting pierced. Theres a whole ritualized aspect to it that I find beautiful and fascinating.
q: Do you read any comics?
a: unfortunately, I do not read any comics. I have read all of the Calvin and Hobbes strips though, those are wonderful.
q: What music are you listening to now?
a: I’m not super hip in the music word, but lately I’ve been listening to a little Bon Iver, a little Kanye West, and indulging myself in some past pleasure with Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.
