Emily Scherzinger

Toronto, Canada.
q: In your website, you mentioned that you want to tell stories with your pictures. How do you combine/include a narrative with photography?
a: I’ve been writing stories since before I began taking photos, and all of my stories were centred around one main character, and what the world was like through their eyes. So when I take photographs, I usually begin by planning to photograph people, and then I think, “Who is the character that is going to be captured in this image? How can I tell their story?” Usually I do that by involving the model’s eyes, because I believe that eyes tell everything about a person that their mouth doesn’t.
q: Do you know how to drive?
a: Yes, I just recently received my license. I love driving, but it’s hard to take photographs while driving, and taking photos from the car is something I love.

q: Upcoming projects or ideas?
a: I’m currently preparing for an art show in Toronto at the Steamwhistle Brewery. After that, I’m planning on collaborating with my sister (http://www.clairescherzinger.com/), an artist, to create a body of work that involves both photography and drawing and painting. My biggest project right now, though, is to get my Lomo film developed!
Heres the link for the art show.
q: Any music to recommend?
a: I’ve been really into rap lately, maybe because I love poetry and maybe just because I love the beats. Macklemore is hands-down my favourite rapper and is one of my favourite musical artists (check out the songs The Town, The End, and Can’t Hold Us), followed by a group called The Roots (check out their album Game Theory).
