q: What do you want to capture in your pictures?
a: Being the nostalgic guy I am, first and foremost I’m trying to capture the moment which I hope will allow me to relive the experience everytime I look at that photograph. I’ve gone through many different photographic ‘trends/phases’ over the years and I find although the technical aspects may differ, the core intentions still remain the same. Right now with all the camping/roadtrips I go on with my friends, my photographic processes now lean towards trying to capture the majestic views and landscapes that I see. It’s not always easy as I’ve always taken more portraits than landscapes, though it’s something I’m slowly getting more comfortable with. Sometimes a photograph will never encapsulate everything you see, but I try to at least capture something that will hopefully be a memento of this time and place in my life.

q: Does photography affect the way you view things?
a: It really does. Along with photography, I’ve also been making films as well and they have both made me much more aware and appreciative of my surroundings. I guess you could say I’ve got an eye that is always roaming around trying to capture the next photographic and it can get annoying at times when I see a beautiful moment and I want to kick myself for not having a camera to catch it. Sometimes if I’m in a park, I’ll find myself walking around trying to think of good angles and try to imagine what it would look like if I photographed it. Though in a strange way, sometimes not having a camera is good as it allows me to really immerse myself in the moment and truly appreciate the beauty that surrounds me. John Mayer describes it perfectly in his song 3X5.

q: So where’s your next adventure going to be?
a: Well the plan is to hopefully go on more camping trips and random overnight stays over the next few months. It’s currently winter here in Australia though it hasn’t exactly stopped up from camping (just yet). Hopefully once it reaches Spring it means more adventures which equals more photographs! But I think the thing we want to achieve by the end of this year is literally camp on the beach.

q: Any music to recommend?
a: My playlist consists of alot of 80’s powerballads and 90’s music (hence the Raye’s Outdoors Mix I’m compiling) though I’ve found myself revisiting alot of Japanese Hip Hop from guys such as Dj Deckstream and Nujabes (RIP). Though if I had to choose one song, it’s simple: REO Speedwagon - Keep On Loving You. Best song ever :)
